Here is a neat little quotation from Chuck Baldwin's latest effort, for Jul 26.

"Societal acceptance of adultery has spawned the homosexual movement, abortion on demand, easy divorce, the rise of socialism, the promotion of evolution, and just about every other social ill. The sexual revolution of the '60s has become an all out assault on virtually every hedge of protection America has, up to and including the Constitution itself."

Just exactly how the supposed acceptance of adultery by society leads to the promotion of evolution is a leap that I cannot follow. Regardless of the underlying nonsense, when a good fundamentalist Christian gets on a roll, the inclusiveness of good things that are attributed to Christianity, and conversely the inclusiveness of the undesirable things that are attributed to an absence of Christianity, is dazzling to behold.

What Mr. Baldwin fails to recognize is that the very forum he is using for his demagoguery, the explosion of communication among ordinary people, made possible by the internet, is the very forum that is slowly setting thinking people free from the mental slavery of organized religion.

What Mr. Baldwin fails to recognize is that the very forum he is using for his demagoguery, the explosion of communication among ordinary people, made possible by the internet, is the very forum that is slowly setting thinking people free from the mental slavery of organized religion.

They tend not only to take advantage of those tools that their ideological opponents labored selflessly to develop, but then turn around and thank their god for bringing these good things about! after their predecessors labored tirelessly to thwart the development of these "blessings." How many pastors have thanked their god for the light bulb or anaesthesia or even the birth-control pill? Not even the pastors who are much more self-consistent than our friend would spurn the use of the light-bulb simply because it was invented by an atheist. And if the light-bulb can prevail against the opposition of cranks such as this, then we need not really fear for science.

True, we must stand guard to protect what we have, but it's not like we must act now before it's too late. Thus, I try to relax and enjoy life. Mr. Baldwin is a drop in the bucket. The vast majority of believers are kind, smart, decent people and we do well to associate with them and work with them and engage them to work with us toward making this a better place for all.
