I do not think you were too hard on Ms. McNicholas. Although cloaked in civility, the tone of her letter is unmistakably condescending. It also misrepresents your purpose in maintaining the web site.

If belief in God is ipso facto an act of personal faith, (i.e., an individual's choice to respond to an intense personal, internal desire to connect with a "universal, creative presence that exists outside of oneself" of whom one has "awareness") then how could this belief ever be proven? or taught? Therefore, what is the purpose in attempting to do so? |

You have explicitly said disproving the existence of gods is not the reason for the site.

I don't have time to read all of the extensive materials on your site |

Then don't take the time to question or comment.

I only "know" what I "know" because of what I feel in my heart -- and it is no one else's to judge. |

I do have a beef with theism, and nothing encapsulates the problem better than the sentiment above. Some theists believe what they are taught with willful blindness and hatred for anyone who may upset their simplistic, I'm-better-than-you world view. I have the same problem with racists. I would not be surprised if Ms. McNicholas is appalled at being likened to racists, but a bigot is a bigot.
